Sometimes God Removes Certain Things From Our Lives To Guide Us Toward His Purpose.

Sometimes, God removes certain things from our lives to guide us toward His purpose. Recently, during my morning devotional, I felt especially burdened and was led to reflect on Matthew 11:28-30 (NLT Tyndale House Publishers):
“Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and
gentle, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke fits perfectly, and the burden I give you is light.”
As I prayed for clarity, I sensed God reminding me that some of the burdens I carry, though worthwhile, are not those He has specifically called me to bear (Ephesians 2:10). Decades ago, God redirected my path away from law school and the practice of law into full-time vocational ministry. Even though it took me several years after this initial sense of call for God to clarify my calling into three key areas all focused around the area of leadership that for me would fit
perfectly.
- Mentoring emerging leaders
- Providing spiritual covering and pastoring established leaders
- Assisting churches and organizations with leadership and organizational matters
God emphasized that, while many activities are good, I should prioritize what He has uniquely called me to do (His fit for me), rather than seeking to simply please others. This realization brought immediate clarity and relief.
If you feel overwhelmed or burdened, consider whether you are serving in alignment with your calling—whether in the marketplace or vocational ministry. Reflect on whether you are taking on commitments simply to satisfy others (Galatians 1:10). Finally, I encourage you to prayerfully read Matthew 11:28-30 and discern which commitments God may be asking you to release, so that you can live fully as a person on purpose finding that yoke that fits perfectly for you.
